Seniors Day In Sobetsu

SUOMEKSI

Once a month in Sobetsu there is a special day for the Retiree's Association, when special activities are planned for them. When the weather is nice, as in August or September the activity for the day can be a kind of Sports Day. Now what is really neat, (in my opinion) is that the pre-schoolers share in the activity making it a sort of intergenerational event.

I had wanted just to take some photos, but I was invited by the hosts of the event to participate!
We were divided into two groups.

The first activity was to tie national flags on to a rope

before tying on a flag

before......

.......and there I am tying a flag on,

the flags re up bagtoss number 1

and the ropes are raised creating a real nice decoration

next we had a bag toss

bagtoss number 2 park golf

really tossing them in, and we won!

The next activity was "park golf" related

huff and puff eewwww I'm scared of the bang!

and then it was the pre-schoolers turn with balloon pop which turned out to be a little more difficult...

as this little girl was afraid of the noise and could not quite sit hard enough to pop the balloon!

And we finished up with a traditional 'bon' dance

and we finished up with a type of "bon" dance

The "bon" dance is a tradition throughout Japan.
